Over 15 years, an estimated 55 Albertans have needlessly died — and yet Alison Redford doesn’t care enough to do anything about it.“Real leadership is about making decisions to save lives,” preach the PCs, through an attack ad claiming Wildrose leader Danielle Smith is endangering lives by opposing Redford’s .05 drunk driving law.Real leaders save lives — but the province’s premier is unwilling to stop the carnage in our own homes, because she hasn’t banned bathtubs.

Bathtubs happen to be the final resting place for 3.7 Albertans every year, according to estimates based on drowning statistics, as compiled by the Red Cross and Lifesaving Society.Ban bathing, and 55 more Albertans would still be around to enjoy a nice hot shower. Therefore, anyone who continues to support bathtubs is abandoning Albertans to die.A ludicrous conclusion? Indeed it is.But it’s the kind of crooked logic Redford’s campaign team has apparently decided to embrace headed into the upcoming election, using partial facts and innuendo to make a point.

The bathtub/death link makes as much sense as them claiming Danielle Smith is an accessory to traffic deaths, just because she questions the dubious new legislation surrounding booze and driving.Smith, for the record, has wondered the same thing as many Albertans — whether enforcement of the existing .08 law might save more lives than hammering drivers who are technically under the legal limit.

A message from your candidate, John Corie PDF Print E-mail

With each passing day, I grow more excited about the upcoming provincial election. As I knock on doors and speak with voters in our constituency from all walks of life, I'm continually inspired by the vision that so many have for the future of our great province. Virtually every person I speak with is passionate about Alberta and wants nothing but the best for themselves, their families and other Albertans.

For several years, we have been let down by politicians that made poor decisions on our behalf and believed themselves to be beyond the reach of accountability. In recent weeks, we've seen an even darker side of Alberta politics emerge, as strong evidence of bullying and blatant disrespect for voters and taxpayers throughout the province has been widely reported in the media. I remain optimistic, however, because for the first time in many years we have a chance to change the political landscape in this province. We have an opportunity to sweep out the old political culture of arrogance and entitlement and refresh the faces of our elected officials in the legislature.

To realize this vision, however, we will need to do something we haven't done in a very long time – more than 40 years, in fact; we will need to stand together and choose a new government. Regardless of past political leaning, I invite you to join Wildrose in the pursuit of this vision. Together, we can be a part of the change that is sweeping this province. Together, we can undo the mistakes that have been made and we can restore Alberta – and that's something we should all be very excited about.

Best regards,

John Corie
